For the past five years, we’ve run a promotion in November with the goal of spotlighting other small businesses in the week leading up to Small Business Saturday. While we believe in shopping small all year round, we recognize the importance of amplifying the voices of smaller businesses. This year was no different. At the start of November, 18 lucky businesses entered our promotion—some familiar faces, others brand new. What they all have in common is that they purchase our picture frames. Each small businesses received a 5×7 Decorate It Frame and was invited to showcase their talents by customizing it. As you shop for gifts this holiday season, consider shopping small and supporting one of these fantastic businesses!

Cynthia Joyce
Cynthia Joyce, recently retired from a career as an art teacher, has discovered that many people are unsure of how to fill their newfound freedom in retirement. While grandchildren, if you have them and live near them, and books to read can occupy some time, there are still many hours in the day.
Cynthia decided to start a business sharing how she chooses to spend her hours, hoping to inspire others on days, weeks, and months when they feel at a loss for what to do.
Her crafts are relatively simple, so as not to overwhelm anyone looking at the finished product. The outdoor activities she shares are low-key, aiming to instill a sense of gratitude for the beauty in everyday life. Cynthia hopes to inspire others to embrace each day with the realization that we all get to make choices. Her mantra is, “I choose to pick up my mat and walk!”
Her submission for this challenge, titled “A Believer’s Memory – Israel 2023,” reflects her approach to creativity. The challenge inspired her to take objects from her travels and create frames for gifting or displaying. Cynthia believes memories are better seen and appreciated than stored away in a box.

143 Frames
Four years ago, Nicole Aaker stumbled upon a hobby she truly enjoyed, which eventually grew into a small business named 143 Frames. She believes every frame should complement both its surroundings and the individual it’s made for.
Nicole was inspired to create frames that are unique, infused with the “Old West” feel of Wyoming, the state she has been surrounded by her entire life. She believes each frame should be as unique as Wyoming itself—though they may not be for everyone, neither is Wyoming.

Florida Art Craft
At Florida Art Craft, Luanne’s laser is at the heart of most of her work. She engraves a variety of products and surfaces, including coasters, spoons, and cutting boards, but also uses it to create artwork from pieces of wood.
On rare occasions, she works with glass, painting one side before engraving it, hoping the result will match her vision. When she received the frame, Luanne knew it would be perfect for a glass piece she had created of a woman getting ready to enter the woods.
Despite being initially scared to engrave the piece blindly, she was thrilled with how the wood on the frame turned out. Staining the frame was easy, and she is excited about using this frame style in future projects.

The current collection features art based on postage stamp collages, arranged into interesting shapes. In early 2025, he will expand his offerings with a new music-inspired line.

Note-able Creations continues to grow, with repeat customers and patrons seeking out Howard at various shows and events. Howard thoroughly enjoys this creative endeavor and invites others to visit him.
Mackenzie Kuck
Mackenzie Kuck is a Washington, D.C. based artist and textile designer with a mission to help others live sustainably and beautifully.
Her abstracted approach to painting captures the subtle nuances of color and form found in nature. As an environmental activist and recent landscape conservation student, Mackenzie uses her creative work to make a positive impact on the planet.
She translates her hand-paintings into repeat patterns for fabric, and in 2024 she introduced a line of sustainably-produced natural fabrics printed with her original designs. Mackenzie is a former architectural designer, and her professional background in design helps her envision both paintings and fabrics that will enhance the spaces they reside. In addition to original artwork, art prints, and fabric sold by the yard, Mackenzie also introduced a line of reusable gift wrap to help others have more fun with zero-waste living. Mackenzie donates a portion of her art and textile sales to support initiatives aimed at reversing global deforestation.
For the Decorate It Frame, I wanted to showcase my love for all things patterns and painting. I love wildlife and especially jaguars for their beautiful fur pattern. The painted frame is characteristic of the abstracted style of my paintings, focusing on the harmony of pinks and reds found in the tulips.
