For the charity month of May 2014, we promote a charity that is very near and dear to us (much like our holiday Fill The Truck initiative.) May is Melanoma Awareness month — melanoma being a deadly form of skin cancer. If caught early enough, treatment is relatively easy to manage and steps can be taken to prevent the cancer from spreading.
Some patients diagnosed with melanoma aren’t quite so lucky. Sometimes the cancer spreads to the lymph nodes and beyond. Among these cases was Andy Caress: athlete, friend, and a constantly motivational young man to all who knew him.
Rather than focus on his bleak condition from the spread of melanoma, Andy created a foundation to raise awareness about this deadly form of skin cancer. The Andy Caress Melanoma Foundation isn’t only about raising awareness, however. This foundation has raised thousands of dollars in donations to cancer research, education and prevention techniques for beating melanoma.
As part of Frame USA’s monthly charity initiative, we make a donation to our charity of the month for every order placed on our website. We also take a percentage of every custom framing order in our retail store and donate that. In addition, we also ask our customers upon checkout (both online and in-store) if they would like to donate to the charity. We never require donations or push for them, but we do sincerely appreciate your donations.
If you can’t afford to donate to our monthly charity and still would like to help, we completely understand. You can make a great difference by sharing Andy’s story, or spending some time learning about melanoma from the foundation’s website: AndyCaress.org. Education is the best chance we have when it comes to battling skin cancer.
