Custom retail framing is significantly different than wholesale and bulk buying. The advantage to retail, is that you get to personalize that final product every step of the way, and you get to see it on the artwork before you purchase! Instead of seeing the products separately in an online forum, you can actually stack the products, mix and match, and see it in person until you find the perfect combination for your custom framing options and services.
When customers walk into a store, they should make sure to bring the artwork or project with them. This will allow customers to really see what the final product will look like on the piece before they make a decision. The framer will measure out the work first to see if a ready made frame will be adequate or if a custom frame is required. Once the image size is determined the fun begins.
Mats that will really make the artwork pop are then selected from samples in the store and are placed on the artwork to help make, not only the color selection, but also decide how much of each color should be revealed. Single, double or triple, custom framing can help any customer make the best decision for the piece. Retail can also show customers real examples of v-grooves, corner cut outs, and engraving that may also be a great addition to the piece.
Once the mats are selected, the framer will then move on to choosing the frame that best compliments the matting and the project piece. Retail stores have corner samples of each moulding available, just like the mat samples. The framer will stack all of the elements directly on the piece for a realistic idea of the final product.
Finally, the framer will help select the best glazing and backing option to complete the frame. After a few days, the customer will be able to pick the fully assembled final framing project. The customer should not have to do any of the assembly themselves, unless they choose to do so. Retail is a great option for customers with little or no framing experience or for those unique framing projects. A framer will help customize and personalize the piece to really make it a treasure to be enjoyed.
Our frames can be custom sized online as well, and you can find mats at our sister site, Mat Designers. Feel free to fill out our custom quote form and we’ll get the the pricing before you buy!
